  • Sator/pulser coil function

    Hi,
As of today I am a Yamaha owner. I just picked up a boat with a 1987 Pro V 150, and it has no spark. A mobile mechanic told the previous owner it was the stator.

Im trying to do some research as to how the ignition system operates. I thought the function of the stator was to charge the battery, and not have anything to do with the ignition system.

Anyhow, in my looking, I see there is the stator, then there is the pulser coils(two seperate items on this motor, I guess on some of the smaller ones its combined).

My assumption is the pulser coils feed a low voltage signal to the CDI box which then fires the coils... Is this wrong, and how does the stator play into all of this?

Also, any tips on where to find a manual that wont take a week to order one?

    Thanks,
    Scott

Ok, so the stator is more or less a power supply to the ignition system to put a charge in the CDI box(and, I assume the coil packs), then the pulser coils(somehow) release that charge to fire the plug?

Where do I get one of these DVAs? If I understand correctly a DVA just tells you the peak voltage that was put out in a period of time?
