  • F80 multifunc guage question

    Last fall I purchased a new non-current 2000 Yamaha F80.
I bought the multifunc kit at the same time from the marina.

It was the 6YR-W0035-E1 kit containing:

    6Y58350T82BK Multi-Function Tachometer.
    68F825539000 Trim/Oil Harness
    6Y583553N000 Gauge Harness.(2-Fuse)

This spring I installed and wired the outboard with a Yamaha flush control and key switch.

I used the rigging guide and shop manual for the install.

All seems to work except the trim gauge only indicates in a range from 4-5. In any normal operating position it all bars are present (5).

I have tried both states of the pink wire, disconnected and connected. No change in behavior.

The dip switches are set to OFF-OFF-ON.

The gray wire to the trim plug in the outboard has a bullet connector on it, but is not attached to anything. Does this need to be connected?

Does anyone have any other thoughts?

    thanks,
    charlie

Check the plastic cam around tilt tube to see if broke. Number 4 in diagram:

      Many Thanks!

The plastic cam around tilt tube looked good, but upon removal I discovered it was broken!

I'll buy a replacement with my next Boats.net order.
By the way, i was very pleased with my last order.
Sorry for the cheap plug, but low prices and knowledgeable support are a great combination!

I wouldn't have found that cracked part for ages.

      Thanks again,
      charlie
