50 hp 1999 Looses power

My 50hp motor runs well then it will kick me back to about 3000 rpms sometimes this can happen for 15 minutes. and sometimes for 30 seconds Then it will kick back in to full speed. I have checked oil level and petrol tank for water and drained carbys. No warning buzzer sounds either. Please help

We had some trouble with the CDI timming advance, usually not that much of a RPM drop, but at the cost of the CDI it would be worth it to let a dealer check it out before replacing

thanks for your reply the dealers that i have talked to said the only way they can really test it is if they replace it or they are actually in the boat when it happens. As it doesnt happen straight away. Is there any way i can test it when im on the water when it happens next time?

You would need a timming light and peak reading volt meter and test for sudden changes in timming or voltage drops to any of cylinders
