I have a 2000 C115 on a Pathfinder that I bought new and have put many hours of hard fishing in salt water on the Yamaha in four years.
I have always flushed the motor with fresh water immediately and thoroughly after each use. The motor runs great and cooling has never been a problem - the discharge stream is still strong indicating good pressure from the water pump. My question is do I need to replace the water pump on a regular basis? My owners manual and my shop manual (by yamaha) do not recommend any routine maintenace replacement. Several local dealers urge me to install a water pump kit every two years. They say that the (seven) bolts holding the lower unit on will corrode up if I don't.
I'm of the school of thought that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
Thanks in advance for your comments.
