99 6hp 2stroke bogs, won't rev.

I really like this motor. I actually bought a new Tohatsu 4stroke to replace it, but don't like the new motor and want to fix this one.


It started to not run at low RPM's when the fuel tank was less then 1/2 full. I suspected the fuel pump, but the diaphrams were both good. I ran it for months with no problems (as long as I kept more then 1/2 a tank). Then it started to be hard to start, and would not idle. Finally it would run, but not idle but only with the choke part way out.

The carb has been gone through many times, and is clean as a whistle. Gas was (of course) changed for fresh, plugs changed etc.

Any suggestions?

Check compression. May have an air leak around intake losing vacuum or bad reeds.

Thanks, you know that had crossed my mind.... not sure why I did not go ahead and check the reed valves / seats while I was messing with it. Used to find the rubber reed valve seats causing the same problem when I pulled wrenches in a motorcycle shop many years ago... not sure why I did not check this.
