  • OX66 EFI Pulser trigger position/ orientation

    I have a 1999 OX66 200 EFI.
Not running or idling properly, The starboard bank of plugs are very clean and wet with gas, the port Bank of plugs are black and dry. I observed this after running it. It will not start in neutral, only when the throttle is fully advanced, it then will only run 1400 rpm with throttle fully advanced. It will gradually pick up RPM and then suddenly scream. When I back off the throttle either quickly or slowly it wants to die or bogg. I am speculating the timing may be off. I have a repair manual, but it does not picture this clearly..... I want to know if the wire leads coming off the trigger/pulser face port at 90 degrees of the crank. I had to replace the flywheel as the small collar with the magnet slipped its position (spun), I believe that the trigger/pulser may have been rotated by the previous owner to compensate and line up the two.
I have the new Flywheel on and the pulser wires face directly port.

If I am not on the right track what are the other possible issues- CDI?

I believe the plugs are fouled at least some of them, I believe this happened as a result of the old flywheen and inproper timing. I have a new set now and will try as soon as i find out the proper orientation of the Pulser/trigger.

    What do the experts recommend?

if it is indeed a electrical issue then i have NO expertise with that but have you checked your low pressure fuel pumps ?? Also you must have a late model 99 as the efi's in the 200's came out in '00.

Pulsor coils wires are on port side.

        Thank you

Thank you both JB123 and Boats.net

how do I test the low pressure pumps? Tear them down and look for rips or fatigued diapraghms? I am also thinking about purchasing a winky Blinky for this problem, but also in anticipation of any future problems. Is it worth the expense? Also does it indicate stored codes or only codes that exist in the present?

Remove the pump and look for for ruptured diaphrams. The ECU does not store codes on that engine so the diagnostic light will only show code when code is activated.

the diaphrams were not ruptured, they looked a little stretched. I replaced them anyway. I will try tomorrow. Does this engine intentionally run on only a few cyl during idle or below 1300-2000 rpm.?? After warmup? If the Pumps dont resolve the problem what would you troubleshoot next? I cleaned the 02 sensor and tube already. When it runs it smells really fuel rich.

Most of the OX66 models idle on 4 cylinders and on all 6 above 1200 rpm's. Check compression and run fuel pressure tests.
