tach is dim

Can anyone give me a hint why my tach read out is dim. Its a digital ,used on a 1994 70 hp with a 703 control. I just purchased the boat and it came with the multi guage with the two pigtails and a few single wires. I have connected to the harness from the engine,but the numbers and bars are so dim that i cannot read them.

you may want to check the connections but the gauge is most likely on its way out.

What would you suggest i replace it with if im going to purchase new. I see yamaha has analog and digital. I really concerned mainly on tach and heat warning. Oil and trim would be second.

i always prefer digital but theyre more expensive....as a matter of fact ive had a speedo going out for the last yr....
