704 Remote Control Reverse Problems

I have a 2001 Yamaha Outboard 2 Stroke model c40tlrz motor with an 704 Remote Control. I am having problems shifting into reverse the idle goes up but its not shifting. I have also noticed the forward seems to be tighter when shifting forward. Please Help!!
