  • gas leaking out of foot

I have a 1995 25hp 2 stroke. Two times in the last two weeks gas has leaked out of the foot while the boat is sitting in the carport. Each time I had used the motor 2 days before this happened. I do not disconnect the fuel hose from the motor, but each time after the leaking I disconnected the hose from the motor and the leaking stopped. It is leaking several ounces of gas running down the skeg. The motor runs fine after this has happened. Could I have a sticking float or malfunctioning fuel pump? Thanks for any help.

is the tank higher than the motor???

if fuel pump is bad it could have some residual, but then again it would run not so great and you should see fuel in the water.

if float was sticking it should run like craap also

Thanks jb123 for the reply. No the tank is not higher than the motor. It is in the same location it has been for several years, the problem just started. The motor runs good at idle up through wot. Once warm, starts with a touch of the starter button. I have not noticed if fuel is present in the water more than usual. Any other suggestions?

Pull the air box, place a clean towel under the carb and watch it for signs the the fuel is overflowing in the carb. Even if the tank is lower, pressure will build in the tank and force fuel into the leaking carb.
If so, cracking the fuel cap open or disconnecting the hose will be a temperary fix.
