  • Yamaha P-45 question

Don't know if anyone can help a newbie but, I've recently acquired a P-45 to power a small inflatable, also recently acquired.
The outboard wouldn't run first time out so I've changed the condenser, points and coil/ignition lead and cleaned the scale out of the carb and it starts first pull!
My question is this. There are four small holes on the shaft, from which I assumed water would pump when it was running, instead I get exhaust gas/smoke and a small spray of water. Everythign I've read up 'til now on the 'net has conditioned me to expect a stream of water being pumped out but I suspect this motor isn't like that, would I be correct thinking this?
I assume that other motors have one small drilling somewhere on the cooling water circuit from which the water streams, correct? If so, this one ain't gonna do that!
I would be grateful for any feedback or comments as I want to use the motor but don't want to ruin it first time out

I don't know that model and not sure what holes you mean. If you are running it in water I would think it would have a tell-tale somewhere to let know water pump is working.

The 4 holes in the shaft above the prop housing is the water intake. used cooling water should come out together with the exhaust in the plate above the propeller.

Could be that your impeller is shot...

          Stops running after full power

          Hallo,

My old Yamaha P-45 starts and runns fine but when you give full power the engine goes back to minimum power and then to maximum power. After 3 times minimum and maximum power the engine stops running. After it stops, you starts the engine again and it goes the same way again, again and again.....
          Does anyone knows the problem???

          P.S. Sorry for my English.
