  • Is it worth fixing or just a boat anchor?

55 year old from Louisiana with first boat. The boat came with a engine laying in it. Its a Yamaha 25 mshu2 6k9 S 200127. I have no Idea on year or what, all i know is that the middle piston has a chunk missing from the skirt and the bottom piston looks like it got melted, the sleeves look great, no caverns or nothing, just need a power head lol,,,,or another engine....Thanks,,,

Could the "U" in model number possible be a "V"? The 1997 is a 3 cylinder motor.

                25 twin

Yamaha made a 25 two stroke in a twin as well as a triple - I believe the twin is best as I have tried both engines on the exact same boat. The twin was slightly faster (on gps) and you can still lift the thing which is a killer doing with the triple. I owned it for 15 years - a nice one with electric start and oil injection. The only thinge I ever needed to do was to change the impeller every 6-7 years and plugs every three years (never fouled one) it was just for preventive maintenance. This thing never failed to start even when I would go down to my boathouse and jump up and down in the boat to break the boat free from the ice at -15C and had to wiggle the motor back and forth to break it free from the ice so I could steer it. Used B6HS plugs in the winter. Hey !!!! we're Canadian!! Too bad they are all gone now - Bob
