worn out rod

YAMAHA 85
i did an overall to my engine last year .
one of the piston rod that i use where doubtful and seems
that today it causing a tapping noise from the end side of the cylinder C#1, (compression is good ).

should i open the engine and replace the rod .
how critical is it for time life of the engine

If the rod breaks it will probably come through side of block, it needs to be replaced.
