A new Yamaha 4 stroke or 2 stroke ?

I have a Evinrude 2 stroke 90hp V4 on my boat right now. Maybe someone could help me on this. I want to buy a Yamaha 90hp 4 stroke. Im not sure if it will be to heavy for my 1978 16.5" Crestliner or should I go with the 2 Stroke. That would be lighter. The Evinrude, I have now on the boat weigh's 301lb and I understand the 4 stroke is 369lb. Is that to much? very confused

The 2 stroke would work with no problem, you can add a additional 70 lbs to back of your boat to see how low in water it sits and mark the water line. Your dealer can measure it to see if 4 stroke will sit too low and if transom will hold extra weight.

If you have a choice, and can make the wieght work, go with the four stoke. Horsepower is a sorry means for measuring the work an engine can do. What you want and need is torque and the 4 stroke will more of it through the rpm range. This is why 4 strokes get nearly double the mileage of a 2 stroke and can last 3 times as long.
