Known issue with 88-02 4 strokes...

Hey, got my Nissan 8 hp kicker motor stolen a month ago and have a question....I have an option to get a Yamaha 9.9 02 4 stroke long shaft motor, but the mechanic said the 88-02's had a corrosion problem issue(believe it was somewhere in the pump tube/water system, that was causing cracking....this ring a bell with anyone?....Main motor is a Yamaha 130(91) and I love it, and would love to have a Yamaha kicker, and was wondering if there's any reason I shouldn't buy the 02 9.9 that runs great.....Sincerely Tom

I havn't had any problems with them but I'm not in a heavy saltwater area.

Hey, thanks for the reply.....I searched the entire forum, and found nothing that leads me to think this is a common problem. The motor is barely broken in, and I will talk with the mechanic myself, and find out what he's talking about....Thanks Tom
