  • 2006 F250 Idling problem

On a fishing trip and the motor ran fine the first day. Second day the motor started and ran fine until middle of the day. It started and it sputtered and then the rpm's at idle were surging up and down and when you tried to go it just about killed then took off. Drove the boat about 3 miles at around 4600 rpm and it seem to run just fine. When we came to an idle the same thing happened. Turned the motor off and fished and when we restarted the motor it ran fine. Drove around the rest of the day with no problems. The next morning the would not stay running at idle and kept killing unless you gave it some gas and there was like a dead spot when you would try to accelerate and it finally kept idling enough to get it off the trailer. Once I got it on open water the boat ran and had no problems all day. I have a Yamaha water separating fuel filter on the boat and the float in the filter was at the bottom of the filter indicating no water. If it was a water problem you would think it would run bad at all rpms. Can this motor be scanned to see if all the systems are working right. The motor is in warranty but it is hard to fix a motor that runs fine. Any thoughts.........

You can try a new set of spark plugs but other than that it does probably need to run the computer diagnostic and fuel system test on it.
