  • prop question

Is there a prop besides the stock prop on a yamaha pro 50 that could do a better job pulling skiers? I have this motor on a older Ranger fishing boat that is fiberglass (heavy) and it takes a lot of effort to get skiers out of the water. I am trying to do this the most economical way and dont have the $ to invest in a new boat or motor.

The current prop is a 14G and the boat weight is about 500lbs. The engine is an 88 Pro50 LH.

The operating range for that motor is 4500-5500 rpm's. What rpm's is yours turning at wide open?

You could easily drop a size or two. I would try to next smaller pitch at least that should get you to the middle of the RPM range... BTW 14G seems to be a odd designation for a prop, I could be wrong.

I dropped it to an 11 1/4x 11 and what a difference! Now I am in the 5400 RPM range with two adults in the boat and pulling a skier! Thanks for all the help!!
