  • F60 fuel pump problem

    Hello all,

I have a 2006 F60 TLR that will not run. I am 99% certain that it is the high pressure fuel pump, but I am suspicious of the regulator also.

Everything is clean, and flows freely up until it enters the high pressure fuel pump/vapor tank assy. Then, on the high pressure side output of the fuel pump, there, it is nearly dry, I can force a slight dribble with the squeeze ball, but that is all. The fuel rail is nearly dry, and when cranking, with the high pressure line disconnected, there is nothing coming out.

No pump noise when the key is on. The fuse is good, and I can hear a relay click, but nothing from the pump.

I have now removed, and disassembled the vapor separator assembly, and removed the fuel pump. When I bench check it, there is no motion at all, no whirring, or anything, just a single slight thunk noise, as the armature energizes, and then nothing else, as if it is locked up inside.

Does this sound like a fuel pump problem, am I on the right track? I never paid any attention to whether or not I could hear a pump when it was running good.

    Thank you for any help.

    Thank you, Just in Time,

What about the fuel regulator? How is that tested?

While I had it apart, I tried to blow through that, and it is closed tight. Even when I apply 20 in of vacuum to the actuator, it is still shut tight. Does this need 30-40 psi of fuel pressure against it before it even begins to open?

Concerning the fuel pump, Is there any reason to order more than just the pump itself? The filter looks fine,

Are there any other parts that should be replaced while I have it down this far, just in case?

    Thanks again,

Even though the strainer looks perfectly fine, I have already placed the order with boats.net for the pump and strainer, as a single unit, it should be here wed or thu this week.

I do not have a manual yet,

I was hoping to clean up the boat last saturday and be out on the water the rest of the weekend. Obviously, things worked out differently.
Fixing the motor was not on the list of things I had intended to do, it just sort of happened.

OK, UPS tracking says that parts should be there when I get home today.

I have tried to buy the factory manual from Yamaha, it is out of stock. I know some people don't think much of the Seloc manual, what other options do I have?

I have heard about CDs or downloadable manuals, does anyone know where are they available? If I can download, I can still have a book in my hands this afternoon when I am putting this back together.

For that matter, are there any special tricks to installing this fuel pump? It seems pretty straight forward.

          J-I-T,

          E-mail was sent,

There is not going to be any work done tonight, UPS tracking says they delivered at 12:57, but no delivery was made, and there was someone here all day long, so it wasn't ripped off, it just was not delivered.

Bummer, we'll see what happens in the morning. Hopefully, it just went to the wrong house.

            JIT,

I sent the lit # to you.

Parts should be here today by noon.

UPS and boat.net have overnited me a replacement fuel pump.
I hope I don't regret having made the lost claim.

            Oh, and Happy Birthday!

              Yahoo,

The new fuel pump arrived, and works perfect, motor starts right up and idles fine.

Now, I notices that the pee stream is very weak, just a little dribble. I will start a new thread to address that.

Thanks for the help on this one.
