  • Tilt/Trim Parallel Switch Trouble

The tilt switch on the helm panel drives the relay/motor for my 1985 V6 Special 220 but not the switch on the engine itself. Each switch is sending 12 volts up to the relays, but only one of the switches will actually make the relays work! To see if it makes any difference, I disconnected the 12 volt power input to the engine switch (which comes from another relay directly below the up and down relays) and connected it directly to the battery, but same result.

Please help. I'm stuck at this point.

    Thanks for the response.

One of the 2 switches (remote switch at helm) will actually trim the engine, no problem. It's only when I try the local switch at the engine lower cowl that it won't trim up or down. When I check the voltage, I get about 1/2 volt prior to engaging the switch either up or down. When I engage the switch, I get a full 12.65 volts (same as remote helm switch) at the relays (both up and down relays).

    Thoughts?

Yep, the switch was bad. Pulled it off, took it apart, cleaned the contacts, put it back together and installed it. Works like a champ.

      Thanks!
