  • Lowrange 522 IGPS and Yamaha fuel management

    Hi all

I am having problems connecting my Lowrance 522 IGPS to my Yamaha fuel management (FMM).

I have connected the yellow wire from the Lowrance NMEA 0183 port to the white wire on the FMM. All dip swithes are set correctly, but the FMM gets no signal from the Lowrance.

The lowrance manual displays the yellow wire (transmit) and the shield (ground) needs to be connected, but the Yamaha rigging manual says to connect ONLY the white wire ???

I have tried almost everything, but nothing helps.

Can any of you guys help me with the problem.

    Thanks
    Martin

The GPS and Fuel management have to share same ground, the shielded wire may need to be connected to black wire on gauge harness. If the GPS is on a house battery then that battery will need to have a jumper from neg. post to neg. post on starting battery.

Weird neither of the manuals explains this.

I'll try to ground the shield to the same ground as the Lowrance.

I'll let you know the results.

      Thanks.

Both Lowarnce and FMM are now connected to same ground, NMEA 0183 output is enabled in the Lowarnce menu.

BUT it still doesn't show the Km/Liter. (or Miles per Gallon ).

Does anyone know what more to try?

The FMM uses the GPS for miles per gallon data, if it's not reading gph then you may a fuel flow sensor problem.

My mistake, naturally I ment the Km per Liter is not working, I get no reading there.

            The gph is reading OK.

You might connect Lowrance to see they have any ideas, the newer electronics sometimes have more than one NMEA 183 output leads and changing to a different lead may work.

Although the Yammi guide says ONLY to connect the white wire, and NOT to connect the red and black wire, I think I will try to connect it to the NMEA 0183 ground on the Lowrance, hopefully I won't burn anything.

Otherwise I will try calling Lowrance.

Thanks so far, I will be back when I know more.
