01 Yamaha 90 Lower Unit /Gear Question

Hey guys, i have an 01 Yamaha 90 and the engine starts and runs perfect, only problem i am having is that it is not getting into gear. I removed the prop and put the boat in neutral, and the shaft spins, when i put it in gear, the shaft does not spin. I checked the linkage that goes from the upper part all the way down to the lower unit and it is turning. What could be the problem i am having? Please let me know what you guys think it is. Thanks.

If the shift shaft is working properly then the problem would be in lower unit and would have to be torn down.

In your opinion what do you think is the like problem going on in the lower unit?

If the problem is in lower unit you wont what has failed until you get it apart.
