  • F200TLRD - pressure in lower unit??

I "unwinterized" my F200 over the weekend. Love that motor - fired up with less than 2 seconds of crank after sitting since last October! One of my pre-starting checks was of the lower unit lube - just removed the upper plug to make sure a bit of lube came out. I was surprised that it seemed a bit pressurized - seemed to spit at me for a second after I opened it. I didn't remember seeing that in past years. After started the motor, I checked it again and it seemed to spit a little again - not like a big splash of lube, just a drop or two.

Anything to be concerned about? Like I say, just don't recall seeing this in years past.

You need to change gear oil and check bottom drain screw magnet for metal.

Thanks. Did that in the fall, and the oil was fine and no metal or anything. I was really just worried about the apparent pressure.

If the oil smells burnt then there is a problem in gearcase.
