'01 50hp 4-stroke (T50TLRZ) Slippage in Hard Turns??

I have a 2001 50hp 4-stroke (T50TLRZ) on a Pontoon boat. I have had it about 4 times with no problems. Went out yesterday and at around 4000 rpm to WOT during hard turns only it would act like it wanted to slip out of gear and at times actually would!! I would quickly lower the throttle to neutral and re-engage forward. Runs fine while traveling straight and at slight to moderate turns but if you have to crank into it for a hard turn it would slip into neutral causing me to have to make VERY wide turns with a 22ft pontoon boat. Only seem to do it over 3000 + rpms anything under that she would turn fine. Not Fun… Any ideas would be great. I’m going to check to see if the cable is binding up somewhere underneath. Thanks..

Are you sure the propeller just isn't ventilating and loosing grip of the water? Sounds like the air is getting to the propeller which makes it spinn off.

Never heard of it..probably because I'm a new Pontoon owner and driving in the swift currents of the Colorado River where I go is challenging sometimes. I'll check my prop and make sure its the best one for where I'm running. Thanks..

trim all the way down before sharp turn will help

If it's actually slipping into neutral (not just feeling like it does) then I think your idea about the shift cable binding up is a good one. Sometimes just a little bit of grit in there, or a burr on the casing, will make the cable hang up and then it pulls as you turn the motor.

if the cable is not adjusted correctly it can slip back in to neutral.... but not BACK into gear afterwards.
a pontoon boat will not handle like a v-hull so any performance youre used to wont be the same.the pontoons could be causing cavitation for the prop to spin IN ....then it catches again after the turn. run it in calm waters to see.
