Engine build date???.

Hi guys,i have picked up this motor and have no idea what its build date it is

s/n 115 AETO6E5L351927

any help is much appreciated

It would be easier if you enclosed a (good) close up shot of your ID tag, but my info tells me the following:

115=115hp
AETO=Generation A, Electric start, hydraulic trim/Tilt, Oil injection (autolube)
6E5= model 115A year 1981- onwards
L=Long shaft

351927 is your serial number

There should be a letter stamped on the lower left or right bottom corner of the ID tag. That letter will reveal the production year.

Thank you very much for that,its a great help,i looked for the extra letter/number but there is nothing else on the id plate.

Doesnt Yamaha push, carv or stamp the serial (with model and year identification) on any other place than a card on the transom. This plate could be rusty, lost or painted.... what happens then? Will it be impossible to make identification or trace?! Shouldnt it be a serial inside the motor too?

No that is the only place engine model and serial is on outboards. It's a good idea to record model and serial number in owners manual or some place for safe keeping.
