2003 2006 225 hpdi?

I bought a 2003 225 hpdi. The motor was originally a 2003, but the owner had several failures so Yamaha replaced the top end with a 2006 top end, not just the powerhead, the entire top end was replaced. The Yamaha dealer verified this and verified that there were only 28 hrs on the motor. I wasn't able to talk to the dealer about warranty. I am bringing the boat and motor to my local dealer to have it rigged. Will it be possible for me to buy a warranty on this motor? I've heard that I will have to buy it in the previous owners name, and have it transfered. Is that correct?

If it is still in warranty you should be able to get extended warranty. Ask your dealer to check it for you.
