Tach for yamaha 90..outboard

So I've figured out how to hook one up..just a matter of finding which one.


I'd like a yamaha tach, in the 2" analog variety..but from what I gather they only make the big honkin' huge ones...

If I buy a cheap aftermarket one..they have an option for 4-8 or 6 cylinder engines....

would I set it on 6 cylinder because I have a 3 cylinder motor (a multiple of 6?) does that make sense?

Do most tachs for outboards on ebay have the setting..or you just plug them in..and they work?

The 90 2 stroke or 4 stroke have a 12 pole alternator, the tach will have to have a 12 pole setting to work.
