Yamaha Shift shaft

Can anyone tell me if a 1986 yamaha 220 special has a 2 piece shift shaft? I cannot seem to match my lower unit up to it and get it to shift? Ive taken the lower unit off for years and now I must have maybe bent the shaft the 1st time I reinstalled it? any thoughts ou there?

Unless someone added a extension kit the upper shift shaft is one piece.
