Have a problem with my 2004 T8pxhc. Just within the last week the trim up quit working, I can get it to go up if I repetedly bump the up switch on and off. The trim down works just fine, after about 4 or 5 times bumping it up and triming back down the motor caseing gets warm then it will go up and down just fine and sounds fine. I looked at the armeture and brushes and they had a slight black appearance to them, cleaned them up put back togeather and same problem. Any ideas from the experts would be great. Rick

Disconnect trim motor wires from trim relay, touch blue wire to positive post on 12 volt battery and green wire to negitive post, it should trim up, reverse wires green to positive and blue to negitive it should trim down. If that works then trim motor is ok and the problem is with trim switch or relay.

Thanks again for your help, I tried the trick with the wire swap but it would only surge its way up, down was fine. When I pulled the stator assy off noticed there was fluid going into motor area not good. Very carefully removed the frame end #64 to look at the filter and it was torn right next to the up, relief spring. The torn piece was laying in a open hole next to tare. Ordered new filter, new oil seal two new brushes and springs and o-ring. Will see if this helps, what do you think. What type of fluid do I need? Thanks, RickLast edited by spawner; 04-20-2008, 10:42 PM.

If you don't have power trim fluid use dex 2. With motor tilted up fill reservoir to top.

Ok here is the latest update on my trim up problem. In my other reply I replaced the springs and brushes, filter that somehow was torn at the up releif spring, the oil seal and o-ring. After reasemling unit and refilling with dexron 3 fluid it still acts the same way, goes down fine, but you have to keep bumping the up switch several times to get motor to trim all the way up. After doing up and down thing several times the motor heats up and then the trim unit will go up and down fast like nothing is wrong. After it cools off it don't want to go up again. I disconected the blue and green wires from the relay when the motor was warm and tried hooking them up to power and ground worked fine, after I let the motor cool down tried the same trick and did not work. It acted the same as it did when hooked up to relay, works when motor is warm and not when cold. Any ideas, i'm lost at this point. Thanks for any help, RickLast edited by spawner; 06-09-2008, 12:12 AM.
