  • Wire harness question for 90HP 2 stroke

    Hi All,

Would anyone know how to get the replacement Yamaha, SOCKET ASY
6Y5-83586-00-00, This is small adapter which attaches to the harness at the gauge. I think it has a diode in it which controls the oil gauge indicators on the muti-function gauge.

This is from a 1989 model. In earlier models had a small control box that did this function. This part is no longer available so I am wondering if it can be fabricated. Right now my gauge shows yellow or red, never green when the tank is full. Everything has been tested or replaced, including the gauge....

    Thx

The best I can remember that socket was for backlight in gauge, if so it will have a blue and a black wire. The green oil light is con*****ed by oil level sensor in oil tank, it grounds the green wire when full of oil.

Thx Boat.net. The info on the diode I heard directly from a Yamaha tech at the NY Boat show. He told me that the older engine pre 88, had a control box near or at the gauge. Do you know how this was managed with the later 80's to mid 90's engines. In 94 I know the gauge system changed.

As noted all I see is yellow and red. Yellow when the oil tank is full. All parts have been replaced. The system does the quick self test when power is applied.. All lights flash....

      Any suggestions?

Wire harness question for 90HP or Tach replacement

Would any one know the part number for a replacement multifunction gauge. I have the old style, pre 1994, only had oil, trim and tach.

Would I need to change anything on the harness? I am thinking I may be able to get all lights to work on the oil system with the new gauge. All I see is yellow and red on the old ones. I have tried 2 of the sames gauges.

I believe I am missing an adapter which I would not need on a new gauge

        thx
        Jon
