  • Tilt and Trim

I have a 1997 60hp yahama which the tilt and electric trim will sometimes not raise the engine, lowering works fine. Any suggestions?

Sounds like it might be low on fluid to me

Had the exact same problem and it was a broken wire to the trim switch in the throttle handle.

I had similar problem. The switch in the throttle handle was faulty.

You need to test the blue wire at the trim relay at engine, there should be 12 volts at the blue wire when the the trim switch is engaged.
No voltage means bad trim switch or wiring.
12 volts means you have a bad relay

            Electric-tilt simple fix

I have a 60Hp 6C5 with electric tilt and for a few months tilt was very slow to operate until O/B completely stopped. Sometimes tilt motor carbons up on the commutator and causes the tilt to stop or become sluggish.
I gave it a few gentle taps (wood - tapped with hammer or rubber hammer) and that dislodged the carbon and now works a charm.

PS Yammaha 60hp 6C5 Engine in fresh water since 2007 with 2600hrs and changed spark plugs (still in good condition) for 1st time.
