yamaha Outboard Motor problems

I have a 50 horsepower Yamaha outboard motor. When I have the wheel turned to the left, the motor will not start, nor will it trim. When I have the wheel turned to the right, I can start the motor and trim. The boat will not start from the steering area until the wheel is within 5 degrees of the center. Once it gets starts, I can steer either way and the trim works. I can always start the motor from the switch on the motor. Any ideas?

check main harness connections or more likely it need to be replaced.
