Need some help regarding an oil leak on my ’86 ProV 150 w/ oil injection. Noticed oil dripping down the leg of the engine. Took the cover off and found that the oil bottle attached to the power head was down to the add line and there was oil under the power head. I filled the bottle back up by turning on the key and letting the pump work. Came back in a couple days and noticed that the bottle was down to the fill line again and oil was on the ground. I cleaned inside and around the power head and with the oil bottle filled to the top watched to see where the leak was. Lines going to and from the oil bottle and oil bottle itself appear to be dry and so far I don’t see any leaks, (must be a real slow leak). This has happened a couple of times and the oil bottle is always at the fill line, (when I turn the key on to refill the bottle, the low oil alarm comes on momentarily until the magnetic pickup moves beyond the alarm stage). This one has me baffled. Any ideas would be appreciated.

The area under the power head is completely dry of oil, no drips, nothing but the oil tank on the power head has gone down about 3/16" and oil is running out of the gap between the power the head and the lower leg. I took a close look at the oil pump and noticed that the small "tang" or "stop" in the closed position was not touching the pump, (in other words not fully closed). Since oil is gravity fed to the pump from the bottle on the power head, is it possible for oil to continue to flow past the pump into the lower section of the engine where it bolts on and then exit through the gap in between the power head and lower leg? I have disconnected the oil pump control rod and fully closed the oil pump actuator arm. I marked the current oil level in the tank, will wait to see if this solves the problem. Thanks again very much for your help. If you think of something, please let me know.

Last night I disconnected the oil link rod and set the pump control arm in the minimum position fully rotated counterclockwise. After sitting for approx. 14 hours, oil loss was about 3/16" down from the full line. All around the power head was thoroughly cleaned and dried and there is no indication of external oil leak anywhere. Oil is running down the leg and into the exhaust. Adjusted and reinstalled the link rod and started the engine this morning and was happy the neighbors didn't call the fire department. Clouds of smoke from oil in the exhaust. Looking through the Yamaha Seloc repair manual it states the pump will leak in only two areas, one around the bleed valve and another around the worm shaft o-ring. Since the oil tank is above the pump and is gravity fed and there is no indication of an external leak, is it possible the worm shaft o-ring is allowing the oil to drain internally and down through the leg and exhaust? Frustrated troubleshooter. Thanks for all the help.

Remove the oil pump from engine and check the oil seal in back of oil pump, if damaged or loose then replace oil pump.
