Need help with charging problem

early 90's 70HP outboard
I am not getting a charge to the battery while running. Tach guage functions perfectly. All other electrics are operational except the panel guage lights. Where do i start?

Test the lightning coil under flywheel and test voltage rectifier. Clean and check battery cable connections on engine and at battery.

where is the voltage rectifier?
I do not have a elec diagram

Yes I have a meter!

I will try that test.
The power head had been rebuilt recently, and i wonder if they left a wire disconnected. In the engine compartment just below the coil packs there is a couple of red wires with connectors going into the harness. One of these is disconnected, but without a diagram i'm a bit lost.
I will test this weekend and report
