  • Engine intermittingly won' start

I've been told that this problem is caused by the neutral safety switch. Can anyone tell me where I can find the NSS? I have a 2005 25' Parker CC with a single 2005 f225txrd motor and Seastar HC5345 single cylinder steering. On occasion the engine won't start. I turn the key and nothing happens. The batteries are fully charged the tilt works fine everything electrical on the boat still works fine it just won't turn over. If I play with the tilt and turn the wheel and move the controls into forward neutral and reverse something happens and then it will start. When it does happen it seems as though it's a little stiff shifting into forward. I'm not sure if this stiffness is part of the problem or not. It hasn't left me stranded yet but it's just not right. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

HI, I had the same type of intermittent starting problem, It turned out to be the KEY Switch, not the neutral safty sw. You could remove the key switch, and hook up a continuity testor across the terminals to check it. When you turn the key to the start position, you should get a circuit across the terminals every time, If you don't get a circuit when the key is turned to the start position, replace the key switch. Use the same testor across the terminals of the NSS, when in neutral you should have a circuit across the two wires/terminals. If you don't have it all the time, replace it. these switches are supposed to be sealed, so that internal corrosion does not happen. If either/or is suspect, replace it/bolth, if necessary. It is wouth the peace of mind.

Replaced my neutral start switch with a microswitch from an old microwave, it was exactley the same!.

You will find it in the lever control box ( very easy to replace ).

DO you get a click as you turn the key ? if so could be the starter solonoid.

Hope this is of some help.
