I've had a major gearbox oil loss which seems to have happened very quickly, not over a period of time, and this has led to some pretty major damage to the gears.
My regular mechanic pressure tested the gearbox and found the driveshaft seal under the water pump was leaking (this was the only seal that leaked under test). The parts were then inspected for warranty purposes by Yamaha, but the technician could not find any evidence of seal failure. No discernable marks on the driveshaft and no damage to the seal itself.
No-one seems to be able to tell me why this has happened, so my question is, what other probable causes are there, for leak such as this?
