  • volt gauge question

The outboard is a 2003 115HP 4 stroke with the 2 set multi gauges. I picked up a yamaha volt meter with a blue wire and a black wire. Can I just simply connect to a positive 12v source then ground the black? Blue to blue???
I'm guessing I need the wire coming off the alternator.
    Thanks for any guidence.

If it's a Yamaha voltmeter it should have a yellow, blue and black wire. The voltmeter reads battery voltage which is the yellow wire(12v key on power). The blue is the backlight in gauge.

Took a closer look at the gauge. I pulled out the blue and black.. yep that's the light.
There are 3 screws on the back which I'm guess are for a wire connector to screw on to. a "+", a "-", and a "u"
the + and - are obvious.. not sure on the "u"..
      any ideas?
      Thanks a ton!

What brand gauge is it? Go to their website and look up the installation instructions. Teleflex and Faria offer instructions, as do others.
