Year???

I just acquired a 70HP Yamaha outboard model 70 TL RS. The serial # is 6H3 1 484687.
I am thinking this is a 1987 model because of the last 2 digits in the serial #. Is my thinking crerect? If not, how can I find out the year?

The year is the last alpha of the model number. In your case S=94.

More specifically:
70 = 70hp
T = electric start
L = 20"shaft length
R = remote con*****ed
S = 1994
