225 lower unit oil black- smells bad

My twin 225 4stroke lower unit oil had slight leak at plug. When I remove plug, black oil spit out under slight pressure. I changed oil and both units oil was very black and smelled burned. Minor shavings noticed at magnetic plug in bottom. Is this normal for less than 300 hour motors?

That could be a lubrication problem, too long between oil changes, bad or wrong oil, or a problem in lower unit, bearings or gears going bad causeing friction which will overheat oil.

wrong oil, bad oil, to long between changes does not make sense on new 225's that the dealer has done all the warranty services on. Thank you thoug because what you are saying is that it is not normal.
