1997 150 tach is jumping around and intermitnent

the tach on my 1997 150 started jumping around from 0 back to the right rpm. What sends the signal to the tach and where do i start looking for my problem.

I would not want to be pessimist, but when they begin to having those problems, it is necessary to replace tach.un the simple control and clean of the connector cables

i forgot to mention i do have a digital tach. not a analog

ok digital, mine I have changed it after 6 years of life, made your same problem!
