I have a Yamaha outboard HPDI 200hp and have just had a problem,No 5 piston has melted.
The engine is 4 years old, but only done 255 hours and looked after very well.
The engine was serviced a week before the the problem and all compressions were fine.
I have always warmed the engine before running up the revs and varied the rev range when using usally around the 3500 to 4000 rpm range, so the engine has never been abused.
I have never used stale fuel always 96 octane.
Has any one else had this problem as this is one of 5 engines in New Zealand that had done this all on No 5 pot?.
The dealer will not pay for the repair as it is out of warranty, but I strongly feel that with only 255 hours on the clock that is unfair and just not acceptable.
