Gear Lube Question

I was changing the gear lube and when pumping it in from the bottom, it filled to the vent, I put the vent back in and my son pumped it again. Gear lube squited out of a small hole (which is only on one side--I assume a speedometer intake). Is this designed to release pressure or did I blow the seals?

If the latter, what is the remedy?

No there is no pressure relief in gear case. Probably need to drop lower unit and check seals.

what motor and year do you have ?
the speedo hole is usually on the front leading edge of the unit, not the side....sounds like a water vent and if that is the case, doesnt sound good. can you post a photo link of the hole?
