1987 40hp

I recently bought a 1987 starcrsft with a 40 yamaha 2 stoke motor on it. When I run at full or close to full speed the exiting water flow will slow down, even stop and the over heating warning goes off. This only happens at higher rpms after about 5 minutes. I just took apart the water pump and it looks good.

The water pump is the most common problem, make sure the housing is in good shape and put in a new impeller. Check the thermostat. If that dont fix it then the water jackets may need to be cleaned out.
