Fuel/ water separator

Hello all, I have a 2005 50HP 4 Stroke. I want to install a water separating filter in the gas line, does it go ahead of the priming bulb? or behind it? and before I do this, is the filter that is in the engine enough? The type I baught has the spin on filters that look like oil filters...Thanks for your help. Bill

Most of all I have seen installed are between the tank and primer bulb. I have mine (as per photo) placed between the gas tank and the "automatic primer system" (no primer bulb to squeeze or go bad)on my Skeeter Bass rig. Just installed a new "glass" bottom filter setup this past week or so. The automatic primer has been on the rig for over 20 years. Never has failed, never leaked..

The filter mounted on the engine deffinitly does not provide enough filtration. Mount fuel/water seperator filter between the tank and the primer bulb, use a 10 micron filter element.

Does it make a big difference if the bulb is not between the tank and the filter, but instead between the filter and the tank?

I just installed one of these fuel / water seperators with a spin on filter earlier this week, but instead I placed it between the motor and the bulb. I too have an F50.

I would also like more elaboration on the placement...I simply dont have the room to mount mine between the tank and bulb? Why cant it go between the bulb and motor? Thanks

Only difference I can think of when the filter is mounted between primer and motor is that when you are priming the fuel will be forced through the filter instead of being drawn through. Not sure if this could be a potential problem.

Well, installed the filter yesterday between the bulb and motor....Started right up and ran great..Looks like it was a success! I dont see any problems from putting the filter between the bulb and motor

thought I'd come back and give an update. I soon found that with the bulb between the fuel filter/water separator and the tank I would starve the engine of gas after about 3 minutes of WOT. I moved the bulb to between the motor and the FF/WS and problem solved.
