Need help with my Yamaha outboard clutch dog

I am replacing my propeller shaft on my 1984 90ETLN motor and I have a repair manual but unfortunately it only covers the basics and says the clutch dog can go on in either orientation. When looking at the clutch dog on my motor, this is obviously incorrect because one side is larger than the other. I want to make sure I put it on correctly so as to not screw things up. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The skinnier side goes toward the shifter.

it should have a f stamped on it. that side faces towards the forward gear.

Sorry for not getting back sooner. I really appreciate the help! I had put it in backwards but quickly remedied the problem before install on the motor. Thanks a bunch and Happy Holidays!
