• weird..water pump/any ideas?

started my 2001 200 yamaha two stroke yesterday and noticed no water out of the pisser, hooked up fresh water to gizmo under the port cowling and water came out of pisser. let it run a few minutes, disconnected it, fired up motor and it starts pissing normally.

new complete pump assembly less than 1 year ago. also tried cleaning the pisser with 300 lb. mono...it was clean. took boat out, no problems!

why would it not cool, then all of a sudden it works...any ideas?

If you are running with a flush attachment on lower unit then it may take awhile for the water to come out. Put boat in water and try it.

Cap' John,
Maybe when you lowered the boat on the lift, the motor was not down in the water far enough for the pump to prime .
I have noticed on my C115 that the water level has to be at or a little above the cavitation plate before the pump will prime on that initial start for the day.
Good luck ,
