Steering cable removal

Thanks for all the advice I have decided to sell my soul for a new engine. I am working on getting the boat shipshape to prepare. I need to replace the steering cable. I cannot afford hydraulics at this time. I cant get the cable loose from the steering box! The motor end was not too bad but the box end does not look like there is a fitting that comes out. How does that work?

its probably a quick disconnect. there is a hole near the cable entry point. push a small punch into it and pull the cable out.
