Stator unit+Control box

I have been having problems with my 85hp YAMAHA engine.I have been told that it is possibly the stator unit and control box,before I spend a lot of money replacing these units,is there anyway they can be tested so I do not have to spend the money on these and still find I have the problem.

Peter,
The stator is just an assembly of coils, like the charge and lighting coil. To test them and the CDI, you really need a Yamaha shop manual for the procedure and specs.
