Tilt trim slow with squeal sound

Guys,
Year 2000, 150 HPDI. The tilt trim operate properly until the last upper 10%.

At this point the movement rate is much slower and the motor or pump makes a squealing sound.

Boat is slipped and I have not checked the fluid.

Thoughts?

1)check/add fluid.
2)apply thin film of marine grease (I use Mobil 1 synthetic) to the sides and ends of all the rams.

Thanks Ken,
Will it hurt the motor/ pump if I want to use it a few more weeks before winterizing it?

I really don't want to pull the boat just to check the fluid.

I would avoid running it at the point it starts squealing .
