Oil indicator on tach flashing

Oil indicator on tach shows oil level half full and flashing (2001 200HP HPDI). I filled the main oil tank but the display remains the same. The engine runs fine, the reserve tank is full and there are no other indications of problems. Any suggestions? Is this a sensor problem? Is it difficult to fix?

Check the remote oil tank oil level sensor and wire harness going to sensor(if wire is disconnected the gauge will indicate add oil).

Thanks, I'll check the wiring, but how do I determine if the sensor is functional?
