tacho fluctating

my analoge tacho on an 40B (1979) fluctates while running the engine..
the needle is not steady on the gauge but fluctates in an range of +/_ 500 rpm's..
the sound of the engine is steady...
perhaps to many connections on the green wire ore is it normal behavior of the gauge??

It could be a connection problem, but most of time when a tach does that it's a bad tach.
