• Yamaha 2005 F150 lower unit leak?

I have an F150 with only 30 hours on it. When I performed the recommended 20 hour servce, I noticed the lower unit gear oil was milky. The engine had been getting progressively louder until I changed the gear oil, then it was quiet, like new. Now the noise is back and the a check of the gear oil looks milky again. Is this indicative of a leak, and if so, can I repair it or do I have to lose the boat to repair? Thanks,

Chad

most likely your drive shaft seal under water pump housing.

Is that an easy fix? The engine is still under warranty but I don't want to lose it for a week or ten days. Thanks,

Chad,
I would pull the prop and look for fishing line possibly wrapped around the prop shaft and cutting into the prop shaft seal.
If you find line there, carefully unwind and remove - if you are lucky, the prop shaft seal will re-seal itself.
If the drive shaft seal is leaking, that should be covered under warranty.
Good luck ,
